Detectives link 10 suspects to 3 mass shootings in the Bronx that left 4 dead
MediaNEW YORK (WABC) -- Officials announced charges against 10 suspects -- seven adults and three juveniles -- on Monday for their alleged roles in three separate shootings in the Bronx.
Authorities say all three mass shootings were sparked by individuals feeling disrespected on social media.
It comes as the end of summer was marred with extreme gang violence. Within an 11-day period in August, four people were killed, seven were wounded and 70 shots were fired.
That includes a shooting in August during a basketball tournament in Baychester that left two people dead -- a 32-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl who died a week after being shot in the face.
"On August 23rd at around 7:30 p.m., a 20-year-old man and his teen accomplices turn Haffen Park here in the Bronx into a war zone," said Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark.
The 17-year-old girl killed in the gunfire, Anthonaya Campbell, was an innocent bystander.
"Her funeral was this past Saturday, the mourners were dressed beautifully to celebrate her life and the event that she will never see, like her prom, her graduation or her wedding because her life was cut short," Clark said.
Investigators say that incident triggered two other shootings in retaliation.
"The other mass shooting took place on Labor Day on Allerton Avenue near White Plains Road at approximately 7:30 p.m.," Clark said.
That's when prosecutors say four men and a 16-year-old drove by a deli and fired 13 rounds -- killing their intended target, 24-year-old Jamari Henry.
One of the suspects ejected from the fleeing Honda was arrested a few blocks away.
"On September 2nd, near Arlington Avenue and Bronx Park East, that man allegedly shot 21-year-old Deontay Davis in the head and then left his body on Third Avenue behind St Barnabas Hospital," Clark said. "Davis later died. The victim is the brother of one of the Allerton Avenue shooting victims."
Officials say the guns recovered are also linked to 13 other shootings in the Bronx.
