Suspect Arrested In String Of Manhattan Burglaries Caught On Camera

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Police have arrested a man they say is the burglary suspect who has struck at least nine times in Manhattan since June.

Irving Talavera, 49, is accused of break in to two salons, three restaurants, a gym, a sports bar, and other establishments, making off with more than $35,000.

He has been charged with nine counts of burglary, grand larceny and two counts of petit larceny.

On Thursday, investigators offered details of each alleged burglary and surveillance video from two of the incidents.

Incident #1: It was reported to police that on June 21, 2018 at 2320 hours, an unknown individual gained entry inside of Shangri-La Nails, located at 1413 Lexington Avenue, within the confines of the 19 Precinct, by breaking through a wall with a hammer from the building next door. Once inside, the individual opened a cash register and removed $150 cash. A surveillance photo of the individual obtained from the incident location is attached and available at DCPI.

Incident #2: It was reported to police that on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 0901 hours, an unknown individual gained entry inside of Rocco Steakhouse, located at 72 Madison Avenue, within the confines of the 13 Precinct, through a maintenance door. Once inside, the individual removed $1,300 cash and a check valued at $1,000.

Incident #3: It was reported to police that on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at 0154 hours, an unknown individual gained entry inside of Shorty’s restaurant, located at 62 Pearl Street, within the confines of the 1 Precinct. Once inside, the individual removed $350 cash from a cash register.

Incident #4: It was reported to police that on Friday, July 27, 2018 at 0520 hours, an unknown individual broke the front glass window of Pure Barre gym, located at 1325 Lexington Avenue, within the confines of the 19 Precinct. Once inside, the individual removed the cash register, which contained an undetermined amount of cash.

Incident #5: It was reported to police that on Friday, July 27, 2018 at 1900 hours, an unknown individual gained entry inside of Celestial Cleaners, located at 357 East 68 Street, within the confines of the 19 Precinct, by removing an air conditioner and entering through the window. Once inside, the individual removed $4,000 cash.

Incident #6: It was reported to police that on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at 0531 hours, an unknown individual caused property damage to the front glass of Master Barbers, located at 1169 2 Avenue, within the confines of the 19 Precinct, in an attempt to gain entry. The individual was unsuccessful and fled the location.

Incident #7: It was reported to police that on Monday, July 30, 2018 at 1402 hours, an unknown individual gained entry inside of the basement of The Allie Way Sports Bar, located at 413 East 70 Street, within the confines of the 19 Precinct, via an outside cellar door. The individual removed 17 bottles of liquor valued at approximately $900 and also removed approximately $1,500 cash. A surveillance photo of the individual obtained from the incident location is attached and available at DCPI.

Incident #8: It was reported to police that on Friday, August 3, 2018 at 2344 hours, an unknown individual forcibly entered through a side door of Little Steamed Buns restaurant, located at 146 East 55 Street, within the confines of the 17 Precinct. The individual picked up the cash drawer from the counter and smashed it on the floor, breaking it open. The individual removed approximately $500 cash and three checks valued at approximately $27,000. A surveillance video of the individual obtained from the incident location is attached and available at DCPI.

Incident #9: It was reported to police that on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at 0410 hours, an unknown individual used a brick to smash open the front window of the Bleu Ciel Hair Salon, located at 1146 Lexington Avenue, within the confines of the 19 Precinct. The individual proceeded to gain entry inside of the location and removed a 36″ flat-screen TV, valued at approximately $500. A surveillance video of the individual obtained from the incident location is attached and available at DCPI.

Thieves Target Sunglasses In Brooklyn Burglary

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Thieves who broke into an optical store in Brooklyn targeted sunglasses.

Police hope surveillance images will help someone identify them.

The burglary happened Saturday night shortly after 4 a.m.

The store – Flatbush Optical – is on Flatlands Avenue in the East New York section.

Police say after the group broke the lock on the rear door, they got away with just under $15,000 in sunglasses.

Small dog helps foil robbery at Brooklyn pharmacy

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Video released this week by the NYPD shows three would-be robbers running out of a Brooklyn pharmacy after they were confronted by the owner—and a small dog.

Police said three men, one armed with a gun, tried to rob the New Trend Pharmacy on Avenue H, near E. 34th Street, in East Flatbush earlier this month—but their plans were quickly thwarted by the owner and a barking dog.

The video released by police shows the tiny pooch yapping and wagging its tail at the suspects before they start fleeing.

One suspect crashes over a counter and another dashes through an aisle to escape, the video shows.

No injuries were reported in the attempted robbery, police said.

Shocking video shows unsolved NYC gun-point robbery from 2017

The NYPD released shocking new video Tuesday of an unsolved gunpoint robbery from three years ago that depicts a pair of goons rip the watch off a man’s wrist as a frightened child looks on.

In the video, two men follow three victims — a man, two women and a child — into an elevator inside 2061 St. Raymond Ave. and then proceeded to rob them, cops said.

One of the robbers aims a gun at the man inside the elevator as his accomplice takes the man’s watch off his wrist and searches his pockets.

One of the women tries to shield the man wearing the watch, while the other gives her phone to the robbers and covers her head with her hands. The child appears to seek shelter behind the man.

The thieves netted two cellphones and the man’s watch. They also appeared to pull something out of one of his pockets, video shows.

There were no injuries.

Police Search For Man Behind String Of Burglaries In Brownsville, Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Police are on the prowl for the person behind a string of burglaries in Brownsville, Brooklyn.

Between December 20 and April 16, nine residential buildings and construction sites have been targeted, police said.

In one incident, the burglar made off with a refrigerator and a stove, authorities said. In another, he took $19,000 worth of tools.

Police said the following incidents were reported:

Around 11:10 p.m. Tuesday, December 20, a man broke the basement door of a residential building near Fulton Street and removed a microwave from one of the apartments.

Around 5 p.m. Wednesday, Decembe r28, the suspect entered a construction site near Thomas Boyland and Fulton streets by breaking a locked fence. Once inside, the suspect stole construction tools valued at approximately $19,000.

Around 7 a.m. Tuesday, January 17, the suspect entered a construction site near Thomas Boyland and Fulton streets through a supply room door. Once inside, the suspect stole electronics and gloves.

Around 6 p.m. Wednesday, January 18, the suspect went into a residential building near Thomas Boyland and Sumpter streets and removed various tools valued at approximately $1,100.

Around 8:20 p.m. Monday, January 23, the suspect entered a residential building, which was also a construction site, near Atlantic Avenue and Sackman Street through a front window. Once inside, the suspect stole construction tools valued at approximately $15,000.

A short time later, around 9 p.m. Monday, January 23, the suspect entered a residential building near Pacific and Sackman streets and went into a first floor apartment. In this incident, the suspect left without taking anything.

Around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, February 4, the suspect broke the lock on the front door of a commercial establishment near Pacific and Sackman streets and removed various tools callused at approximately $960.

Around 3:30 p.m. Saturday, February 18, the suspect entered a construction site near Pacific and Sackman streets by breaking a metal fence. The suspect left without taking anything.

Finally, around 6 a.m. Sunday, April 16, the suspect broke the lock on the front door of a residential building, which was also a construction site, near Hull Street and Eastern Parkway and removed a refrigerator and stove.

Police said the suspect in the first incident was described as a black man, who was last seen wearing a camouflage baseball hat, brown coat, dark jeans and dark boots.

Man Sought In Queens Burglary Spree, Police Say

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Police believe the same man is behind five burglaries in Ridgewood, Queens this spring.

The first incident took place on April 5 at Catalpa Avenue and 60th Street. Police said a woman saw the man try to open her locked front door using a “wallet-size instrument.” He allegedly brandished the knife and menaced the woman, before stealing a bicycle.

Also on April 5, the man burglarized an apartment at 68th Avenue and 60th Street and stole a laptop and jewelry, police said.

Two days later, he allegedly broke into a home at Catalpa Avenue and 60th Lane, but failed to open an interior door and left emptyhanded.

On May 11, the man burglarized an apartment at Wyckoff and Jefferson Avenues and stole a laptop, digital camera, jewelry, gym bag and a bicycle, police said.

Then on May 16, he allegedly broke into an apartment at Putnam Avenue and 60th Street. The homeowner returned to find the man, who identified himself as a detective investigating the incident, police said. He fled emptyhanded.

Police described the suspect as a Hispanic man. He may be a New York Islanders fan, as he was seen wearing an Islanders sweatshirt and T-shirt in two of the incidents.

3 burglars sneak into Brooklyn high school, steal $5,000 from office

MIDWOOD, Brooklyn (WABC) -- The NYPD are searching for three suspects who burglarized a Brooklyn high school.

The incident took place in June at Ohr Shraga High School on East 18th Street in Midwood.


Authorities say once inside an office, the trio stole an envelope that contained $5,000. The individuals then fled on foot through the front door in an unknown direction.

There were no injuries reported as a result of this incident.

Police have released descriptions of each of the suspects:

- Individual 1 (individual who entered office through window) is described as a light-skinned male, approximately 18-20 years old, 5'9" tall, 150 lbs last seen wearing a light colored button down shirt, black pants and dark colored shoes.


- Individual 2 is described as a light-skinned male, approximately 16-18 years old, 5'7" tall, 150 lbs last seen wearing a striped t-shirt, black pants and black shoes.

- Individual 3 is described as a a light-skinned male, approximately 18-20 years old, 5'8" - 5'10" tall, 150 lbs last seen wearing a brown jacket, black pants and black sneakers.

Man Caught On Camera Taking Money From Cash Register In Brooklyn Burglary, NYPD Says

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Police are looking for a man caught on camera during a suspected burglary in Brooklyn.

Investigators said it happened at the Lucky 8 Restaurant on 8th Avenue around 8:40 a.m. on August 7.

The suspect allegedly got inside through a back door, then opened the cash register and another locked drawer and took $600.

Surveillance video from police shows a man taking money from the register.

The suspect is approximately 30 to 40-years-old, 5’8″ tall and 150 to 160 pounds, police said.

Masked thief hits nearly two dozen NYC businesses during pandemic

A mask-wearing marauder has been on a regular coronavirus crime spree in the city, burglarizing 21 businesses since mid-March, cops said Wednesday.

The NYPD released video of the person wanted for questioning in a series of break-ins at restaurants and grocery stores in Brooklyn and Queens between March 17 and Sunday.

The crook gained entry into the stores and eateries by throwing a brick into a glass door or window or by damaging a lock, cops said.

The glove-wearing thief has taken liquor, jewelry, electronics, cigarettes and approximately $4,280 in cash from the closed-down businesses.

The individual is described as about 5 feet 8 and was last seen wearing a gray hooded jacket, red pants, black sneakers, white gloves and a white
